World Information: In this world, there exists the legendary "Great Heart Tree", a force of nature which connects to all living things and imbues them with what is known as a Heart Flower. The Heart Flower is a piece of each person's heart, and symbolizes a different aspect of their personality in accordance with the language and symbolism of flowers. However, there exists a being called Dune, who seeks to turn the entire world into a desert wasteland so that he may rule over it, a goal he seeks to see accomplished by threatening the Heart Tree. In doing so, he commands his servants, the Desert Messengers, to weaken the Heart Tree by stealing the wilted Heart Flowers of humans who have fallen into despair and turn them into monsters known as Desertrians.

In order to defend itself, the Heart Tree has the power to create fairies. These fairies find girls who are worthy, and then give them the power to transform into legendary warriors known as "Precure". These Precure fight in elegant and beautiful dresses, both to defend people's hearts from the Desertrians, and to ensure the safety and health of the Heart Tree. The first of these Precure was Cure Ange, who battled Dune's minions centuries ago. Many years later, a powerful Precure known as Cure Flower fought Dune and sealed away a portion of his power, driving him off the planet. Though his Desert Messengers would resurface again later, Cure Flower, whose real name was Kaoruko Hanasaki, went on to live a peaceful life with her family and became a botanist.

Personal History: However, the story is not about her, but rather, her granddaughter, Tsubomi. Born years after Kaoruko gave up the mantle of Cure Flower and became a botanist, Tsubomi was constantly looked after by her grandmother while her parents were busy with their own work with flowers and traveling all over the world. Though Tsubomi loved her grandmother dearly, her parents' absence made her more and more lonely, leading to her becoming shy and distant from others. Realizing the effect this was having on their daughter, Tsubomi's parents resolved to spend time with her, quitting their jobs in order to move to and open their own flower shop in Kibougahana, the town in which Kaoruko lived. It was at this time Tsubomi resolved to use this opportunity to change herself into a more open and confident person... and also when she began to have dreams of a Precure named Cure Moonlight being defeated in defense of the Heart Tree.

Upon moving in and starting her first day at school, Tsubomi struggled to make the changes she so desperately wanted to make, finding herself overwhelmed by her fellow students. One in particular, Erika Kurumi, came on very strong, attempting to become Tsubomi's friend and get her to join the school's failing fashion club, but doing so in a way that intimidated Tsubomi. However, Tsubomi was soon drawn into an encounter where Erika, suffering from her own insecurities, had her heart flower stolen by Sasorina, one of the Desert Messengers, and transformed into a Desertrian. Learning from two fairies named Chypre and Coffret that her dreams of Cure Moonlight were real, and that she had the potential to become a Precure herself, Tsubomi took up Cure Moonlight's transformation item, the Heart Perfume, and transformed into Cure Blossom...

... Only to find herself overwhelmed by the Desertrian's power. She was rescued by a mysterious handsome man who took her to her grandmother, who, upon learning Tsubomi was now a Precure, explained things further. The Desertrian then attacked them at the botanical gardens in which Kaoruko worked, and Tsubomi transformed again, finding her resolve to save Erika and return her Heart Flower to her. After this, Tsubomi and Erika resolved their differences and became friends. In time, it was discovered Erika too had the power to become a Precure, and she joined Tsubomi in her battle as Cure Marine.

As time went on, more Desertrians appeared, with Tsubomi and Erika growing as friends and the latter helping Tsubomi to overcome her doubts and lack of confidence. These new enemies included a mysterious warrior known as Dark Precure, who served Dune's direct underling, Professor Sabaaku, and was far more powerful than the other Desert Messengers. This led to an encounter with a mysterious young woman who they came to know as Yuri Tsukikage, who they later discovered was Cure Moonlight, who survived her losing battle at the cost of her powers and her fairy partner, Cologne. Meanwhile, with each Desertrian defeated and each Heart Flower returned, the girls gained more and more of items called Heart Seeds, which, when gathered in an item known as the Heart Pot, helped the Heart Tree heal and grow in power.

Additionally, as Tsubomi grew both as a person and as a Precure, she befriended her school's student council president, Itsuki Myoudouin, actually developing a crush upon her. Unaware Itsuki was not actually a boy, Itsuki felt forced to act as masculine due to her responsibilities to her family and her actual brother's failing health. Itsuki actually became a Precure as well when the Heart Tree birthed a new fairy named Potpourri, who eventually found Itsuki and helped her transform into Cure Sunshine. Both as a friend and as a Precure, Tsubomi helped Itsuki become more comfortable with her feminine side, becoming very close in the process.

Likewise, once Yuri began to acknowledge and trust the new Precure more, Tsubomi became very close to Yuri, coming to see her as both a role model and someone she cared deeply for. Eventually, Tsubomi, Itsuki, and Erika were tasked with going to the Precure Palace, a place where they would be tested for their worthiness to retrieve a relic that would make them even stronger, the Heartcatch Mirage. Besting the challenges, this grants them the opportunity to restore Yuri's powers as Cure Moonlight, and though she initially refused, she found the resolve to do so after reconnecting with the spirit of her lost fairy, Cologne. Yuri regained the power to transform, saving Tsubomi and the others from Dark Precure.

However, the Precure would soon be called back to the Palace, where they would be tested for their worthiness again; this time, the ability to wield the Super Silhouette, a second level of power that would afford the Precure greater strength in battle. Just as the others did, Tsubomi individually faced a "shadow" of herself, who tested whether she had truly changed, protesting to Tsubomi that in doing so she had actually denied and left part of herself behind. Tsubomi came to realize the meaning behind this, and embraced doppelganger, saying that she could embrace the part of herself that was still shy and introverted, knowing full well that this was still part of who she was. With this, the girls attained the the Super Silhouette and bested one of the Desert Messengers' most powerful monsters, the Desert Devil.

The girls continued to battle against the Desert Messengers, facing and defeating each challenge with their new powers. At some point (the exact point in the series is unclear, but these events cover the series' movie, which is canonical), Tsubomi and the others accompanied Erika and her family to France. Tsubomi was entranced by all the flowers there, but by far, the most amazing thing they countered there was an errant young man with werewolf-like powers, who Tsubomi developed a friendship with and named "Olivier". They soon discovered that Olivier was in fact the servant of a renegade Desert Messenger named Salamander, who Olivier saw as a father figure. They faced Salamander in battle, defeating him even after her transformed into a giant dragon, and ultimately helped him and Olivier to resolve their differences and begin a new life together.

With Christmas came the return of Dune, who reclaimed his power and kidnapped Tsubomi's grandmother, despite her temporarily regaining the ability to become Cure Flower. Dune successfully transformed the world into a desert, but the Precure survived and gave chase, following Dune and his army to space, where they attempted to finally stop him and save Kaoruko. The group split up, with Tsubomi following Yuri... leading to their final confrontation with Dark Precure and Sabaaku. However, their victory turned into tragedy, with the revelation that Sabaaku was actually Yuri's long-lost father, forced to serve Dune by way of a mask that controlled his actions. Furthermore, Dark Precure was actually a copy made by Sabaaku and based on Yuri; essentially, as her father put it, her "sister". In the course of the battle, Dark Precure faded away due to her injuries, and Sabaaku was killed by Dune. On the brink of despair, Yuri attempted to fight Dune with hatred and anger, but Tsubomi tearfully took her hand, pleading with Yuri not to throw away who she was, the person Tsubomi deeply loved and admired. Yuri acknowledged Tsubomi's feelings, and together, they joined forces to fight Dune, being joined by Itsuki and Erika in short order.

As their battle raged, Dune took a massive form, as large as the earth itself. In response, the Precure tapped into a power greater even than that of the Super Silhouette, the "Infinity Silhouette", becoming an enormous Precure who, true to the nature of the Precure, defeated Dune with the power of love, delivering a single punch that exposed him to something he never experienced before. Dune then faded away completely, and the world was saved. With no enemies left to fight, Tsubomi and the others returned to their normal lives, though Tsubomi would never forget the experiences and growth she made as a Precure.

Personality: At her core, Tsubomi is a friendly, loving girl who wants to spread love and share friendship with everyone around her. Though her heart flower is never revealed in the series itself, it is shown to be the cherry blossom in ancillary materials. Much like her name, which means "flower bud", her heart flower reflects her inner beauty and loving heart, as her potential to bloom into something greater.

Though a part of her remains shy and introverted, the Tsubomi we see at the end of the series is quite different from the one at the beginning. When we first meet her, though she's energetic and determined, she's still someone who can't bring herself to speak her mind or assert herself, freezing up at introducing herself to her new classmates and being unable to tell Erika how she truly feels about things. To contrast this, by the end of the series, she's much more determined and has made more friends, though she is still more reserved than others, having found a middle ground between the way she started and how she wants to be.

That being said, even when she was too shy to even speak up loudly in class, Tsubomi was rather different from the stereotype of a "shrinking violet". A romantic at heart, she would be unable to hide her crushes on various individuals. Likewise, she would sometimes blurt out what she was thinking, unaware that others were listening. The trouble came from her being unable to share and do these things naturally, stumbling into them rather than asserting herself. When she was alone and comfortable, it came easier, but around others, she found herself struggling. Thanks to becoming a Precure, Tsubomi found the inner strength and share herself, though being a young girl, she still has moments where her imagination and insecurities run away with her. But that's fine; no one ever really stops growing up, after all.

One thing she has always been able to do, however, is stand up whenever someone is being hurt, sad, or abused in some way. When pushed too far, she would courageously say "I've had enough!", and though her inexperience would cause her to become flustered and overwhelmed in battle, she would nonetheless always fight as hard as possible once pushed to the limit of what she could tolerate. This quality is what led to her coming into her own as a Precure and helping her to push past her weaknesses. Even if she personally never became the "strongest" Precure on her own, she is not one to easily give up on a fight.

Tsubomi is also someone who doesn't love by halves; when she feels for a person, whether it be friendship or otherwise, she will do her best to help and support that person. When others suffer, she suffers. This is evidenced multiple times in the series, where she is unable to ignore the problems and feelings of numerous classmates, despite not yet knowing them very well, and in how she was the one to most empathize with people like Yuri and Olivier and the suffering they experienced. Tsubomi believes that most any problem can be solved with love and understanding, and when Yuri was on the verge of dishonoring her calling as a Precure and fighting with hatred and anger, it was Tsubomi's tearful words that were able to help her pull herself back and remind her what she was fighting for. Other people being sad will make her sad as well, though it won't do anything to stop her from reaching out or attempting to help them.

Beyond all of that, Tsubomi is, sadly, rather clumsy. It is worth stating that she often has times where she cannot hide what she's thinking, and the idea of romance leaves her blushing and flustered (though that doesn't stop her from crushing on people openly, she has a hard time reigning herself in). At times, she can be goofy and downright silly, while others, she can be calm and collected. This is usually in quieter moments, where she's free to indulge her love of flowers, which are among her favorite things in the world. In fact, harming or even insulting flowers is the quickest way to earn Tsubomi's ire.

Finally, for all her growth, Tsubomi is still someone who requires the support of loving family and friends. Her parents' absence led to a great deal of depression and loneliness on her part, and even with all that's happened, the absence of them and other people close to her can cause her to slip back into this kind of behavior. She's much more equipped to rise above things like this than before, but as her experience with her shadow proved, this kind of thing is still very much a part of who Tsubomi is. Much like a flower herself, Tsubomi needs love and warmth to continue growing, but in the case of this metaphor, she's been planted in much better and healthier soil and her potential is greater than ever before.

CRAU developments: N/A

Key themes: Changing, flowers, love

Main Motivation: Becoming a better and more strong person, and upholding the principles of love and protecting others.

Skills: As a normal person, Tsubomi is rather clumsy and uncoordinated, being a poor to middling athlete, though she gets somewhat better as the series goes on. Furthermore, she's actually nearsighted, so without her powers, Tsubomi is rather unremarkable in terms of physical ability.

Tsubomi's ability to transform into Cure Blossom hinges on her Heart Perfume, which resembles a perfume dispenser. She has her own personal pink Precure Heart Seed, which, when inserted into the Heart Perfume, allows her to transform by spraying herself with the perfume generated by it. As Cure Blossom, she has strength, speed, and fighting prowess greater than the average human being. That being said, when Tsubomi first started out, she had great difficulty controlling her new-found power, and though she became a much greater fighter over the course of the series, Tsubomi never quite became an amazing fighter. She also remains somewhat clumsy both when transformed and not, though this has decreased drastically as time went on.

When transformed, Tsubomi has access to a number of other abilities as well. Most of these involve using her personal weapon, the Blossom Tact, which she calls forth from her brooch. The Blossom Tact resembles a conductor's baton. Her personal finisher is the Pink Forte Wave, in which she fires off an energy blast shaped like a flower petal from her tact. She has finishers that she can execute with other Precure as well, the first of which is the Floral Power Fortissimo. This attack is usually performed in conjunction with Cure Marine (though she did also perform it with Moonlight, and could theoretically do so as well with Sunshine), and involves the two Precure drawing a "forte" symbol with their tacts, surrounding themselves in a heart shaped aura composed of both their respective colors, and then blasting themselves through their enemy. This attack is made even stronger with the help of Sunshine, who provides a sun shaped energy ball for the two to surge through; this iteration is called the "Shining Fortissimo". Once all of these attacks strike home, they trap the foe inside of a massive flower, allowing the Precure to purify them of evil by spinning the cylinder on their individual tacts. If used on something or someone that is NOT a Desertrian or some other form of monster, it will merely cause them to feel very good.

Blossom has other attacks that don't serve as finishers, including "Blossom Shower", in which she creates a circle of flower pets with her hands and shoots them forward, "Blossom Impact", an energized punch, and "Blossom Flower Storm", in which she spins, creating a storm of flower petals around herself. She can also perform variations on these and other weaker moves with members of her team. One of the strangest is the "Blossom Butt Punch", in which she strikes the opponent with her... butt with great force. Furthermore, she can also utilize differently colored heart seeds, which were generated by defeating Desertrians, in her Heart Perfume for different purposes. For instance, a red heart seed provides a boost of speed while a magenta one increases strength. A blue heart seed is not so useful in battle; instead, it creates a pleasing scent that relaxes and helps free someone of their worries. Blue seeds can be used with or without Tsubomi or the other transforming. These are all the heart seeds Tsubomi can use on her own.

Finally, we come to the Heartcatch Mirage, which resembles a jewelry box with a mirror inside it. In addition to allowing the Precure to assume Super Silhouette form, using a white Heart Seed will allow one to use the Heartcatch Mirage itself to teleport themselves. Invoking its power allows the Precure to power up into Super Silhouette form, which boosts all of their attacks and allows them to perform the Heartcatch Orchestra. This attack requires multiple Precure to activate, and in using it, they summon the aura of an enormous woman, who then strikes the enemy with and leaves them open to be purified.

It should be noted that all of these finishers are progressively more and more powerful, and stronger enemies have the potential to endure and break free from some of them.

There is an even more powerful level beyond the Super Silhouette: The Infinity Silhouette, in which all four Precure tap into a greater level of power and combine a planet-sized Precure. Though their respective wills combine to form the Infinity Silhouette, the result resembles and sounds quite like Tsubomi. However, this form was largely a one time thing, and it's unlikely Tsubomi and the others would ever be able to use it again. Even then, it requires all four of them to be present.

Item: Her Heart Perfume, with Heart Seed. As a result, her stronger forms and attacks that cannot be utilized outside of her basic transformation is cut off to her.
